Hello, I’m Renée

  • Daily Announcements–Tuesday, August 17, 2021

Gryphons, listen to this.  A great and wise man once said “Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare it for today.  That wise man was Malcolm X.  He spoke these words to inspire youth more than 50 years ago and they are still good today.

Gryphons please know, trust, and believe that your ability to come to school each day and to be taught and to learn and to prepare for your future is a privilege that many do not have.

Work each day to be your best and to appreciate SCS, the teachers and the resources available to you…..just because you deserve it.

  • Weekly Message–August 16-20, 2021

Good Evening SCS Families. This is Ms. Price with your weekly message for the week of August 16.

Due to the repairs on our chillers, school will be dismissed tomorrow, Monday, August 16 at 1:00 p.m.  So again, we will have school tomorrow, starting as normal at 9:00 a.m. but we will get out at 1:00 p.m.

Wednesday, August 18 is a teacher workday and there will be no school for students. Please mark your calendars for this date now.

Many of you have asked about whether we will have COVID testing like we had last school year. I have not heard of any plans for us to start this program again, but if it is planned again, I will definitely let you know.

If your child is having COVID-related symptoms or if you are having your child tested for COVID, notify me or the main office. We need to make sure that we are following appropriate protocols and communicating with you quickly. Teachers are busy and may not get to their emails immediately. Remember that if your child is ill, you must keep them at home. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.

This is also a reminder that students must wear masks at all times, except while eating lunch or socially distanced outside.  Students may ask for permission to use the mask break stations throughout the day. Remember that masks are to be worn fully covering the mouth and nose. Parents, we will continue to contact you if students do not wear their masks correctly.

Please review the new guide: A to Z: DPS’s COVID-19 PREVENTIVE MEASURES FOR 2021-2022. It can be found on our website under District Updates.

Also mark your calendars for our Virtual Curriculum Night and General PTSA Meeting at 6:00 p.m. August 25.

We need you to join the SCS PTSA!!!

    https://thescsptsa.com/membership/

Jostens will visit SCS August 31 at 9:00 a.m. to give Seniors information about cap & gown orders.

We encourage students to bring reusable water bottles to refill at the water fountains.  We are still socially distancing as much as possible. Please help us remind your children to follow the classroom and hallway procedures. Let’s keep each other safe.

The DPS returning student registration portal is now open and ready for use. If you have a student who was in a DPS school last year, you will use the returning student registration portal to complete your child’s registration process for the 21-22 school year. There will be no paper registration packets. You may complete the registration process by going through your Parent Portal account, or, if you do not have a Parent Portal account, with a unique snapcode you can obtain via the email sent on 7/20/2021 to the address we have on file. If you do not have a parent portal account and did not receive an email with your unique snapcode, please contact the school directly at 919-560-3535 for assistance. Please note that the registration process CANNOT be completed using the PowerSchool mobile app. You must complete the process using the browser on your phone or computer. Please have this process completed by August 30.  Contact Ms. Fleming  for further assistance or questions regarding the return student registration portal.

We know that the app is not always updated in the afternoons with arrival times, so we will notify if a bus leaves SCS late via Facebook and Twitter posts.

Always check our website, my blog—Price’s Write, our Facebook page, and Twitter for frequent updates about what’s going on at SCS.

Have a great evening from everyone at SCS where we practice the 4C’s–Creativity, Communication, Collaboration, and Community.

Gryphons, think for a minute about just how powerful the brain is. Brain power is what is responsible for all of the inventions and creative concepts that keep us happy, safe and alive. Let us practice using our thoughts and imagination for good and powerful and purposeful living. When we focus on good, we do good for others in our environment. When we take time to think good, do good, be good…goodness is returned to us…often abundantly. As always Gryphons, let us be intentional and use our brains as a source of good. Let us practice thinking about thinking and take actions—on purpose—that reveal just how powerful our brains can be!

  • Early Dismissal Due to Heat–April 13 & 16, 2021

Good morning, School for Creative Studies families. This is Principal Renee Price with an important announcement. Our air conditioning system needs a replacement chiller, and the temporary cooling units that the district has brought in are not able to keep up with today’s heat. As a result, we are going to dismiss early at 1 p.m. today, August 13, as well as Monday, August 16. We expect to have the replacement parts we need on Monday, and hope to return to our normal schedule on Tuesday. I will keep you informed. Again, we are dismissing early today, Friday, August 13, and Monday, August 16. Thank you, and have a good afternoon.

These young men take youth empowerment and social change seriously. The four tenets that all YMA members abide by are leadership, mentorship, service to the community, and education. If you have any questions please contact Coach Barnes, Mr. Marshall or Mr. Lewis.
