Weekly Announcements–January 31-February 4, 2022
Good Evening SCS Families. This is Ms. Price with your weekly message for January 31, 2022.
This week SCS reported 4 positive COVID cases, 0 close contacts were identified, and there were 0 class closures. Communication to families whose students were identified as close contacts has been completed. If you have not already been personally contacted, it means your student was NOT in close contact with any of the COVID-19 cases.
Your student may come to school unless they are feeling sick or exhibiting any symptoms of COVID-19. Please know we continue to take all precautions necessary to protect the health and safety of our students and staff. Thank you.
Families who are seeking online learning for their student(s) for the 2022-2023 school year must apply to Ignite! Online Academy via the Magnet and CTE Pathways Application. The application deadline is Friday, February 4 at 5pm. This is the only opportunity for families to access online learning and Ignite! for the upcoming school year. The application can be found at dpsnc.net/magnet. For questions, please communicate with the Office of Student Assignment.
I’d like to remind you that we hold routine drills throughout the year to practice for various safety situations. These drills include fire drills and lockdown drills even when there is no active situation at our school. We hold these drills to ensure that everyone knows what to do in the event of an emergency. Please speak with your students about the importance of these drills and their participation.
I’m excited to announce that for the sixth consecutive year, SCS has won a Merit Award from the Magnet Schools of America being named a Magnet School of Distinction. This award is a reflection of the dedication and hard work of our staff, students and parents at SCS. Thanks to Dr. Rathbone, Magnet Coordinator, for writing our award application.
Want to order a 2021-22 SCS Yearbook?
Visit https://strawbridge.fotomerchanthv.com/search/YB110739
- $45.00 from January 15, 2022, to April 29, 2022 (FINAL ordering date)
- Want to personalize your yearbook with your name? Add an additional $10.00 to your order
- View the yearbook flyer for visual steps.
AND–Seniors and parents may buy ad space in the yearbook for your student. Flyers have been passed out to Seniors.
I’d like to remind you that Durham Public Schools, in partnership with MAKO Medical, is providing weekly COVID-19 testing at our school each Tuesday to help identify possible COVID-19 infections among students even if they’re not showing any symptoms. Research has shown such testing can reduce the spread by 50%, especially in large settings such as schools. There will be no testing this week. Testing will resume Tuesday, January 25.
This is a voluntary testing process, so a parent or guardian must register their student to participate. The link to register is included in the email version of this message, posted on our website and my blog. All testing information and results will remain confidential.
I encourage our families to register their students for this free opportunity. Together, we can keep our students safe, in their classrooms, and prevent community spread.
Register your student today with this link: https://home.color.com/covid/sign-up/start?partner=tf-dur-688-students
Have a great evening from everyone at SCS where we practice the 4C’s–Creativity, Communication, Collaboration, and Community.
