  • Weekly Message–October 26-30, 2020

Good Evening SCS Families. This is Ms. Price with your Weekly Message for the week of October 26.

Official report card grades are available through the PowerSchool Parent Portal. DPS has created step-by-step instructions, as well as video instructions, on how to access the PowerSchool Parent Portal. These directions have been shared in your Global Announcements in Canvas. Report cards will not be printed and issued. PowerSchool is the official source of student grade information.

Parents, we are still available Monday-Friday 8:30-4:30 for you to stop by the school to pick up your Parent Portal Account information. You will need to bring your picture ID. If these hours are not convenient for you, please call the school so we can assist you with getting your Parent Portal information.

We have changed how attendance is collected on Wellness Wednesdays. Starting Wednesday, October 21, students will need to log into 7th period only and answer the question of the day. The 7th period teacher will then record the attendance for the day. Students must log into Canvas, check into 7th period class and answer the Question of the Day by 2:00 p.m. This Wednesday includes a VIRTUAL HALLOWEEN COSTUME FASHION SHOW during the regularly scheduled Wednesday Circle. You may attend the Circle without a costume.

Wednesday is an Early Release Day so there will be no Clubs held after 12:00 p.m.

We have received science materials for grades 6 and 7 that students will need for instruction this quarter. Please plan to stop by the office at your earliest convenience to pick up these science kits for your student.

We encourage you to join our PTSA. Students are also encouraged to join. We have regularly scheduled meetings for students so they can make their voice heard about activities at our school. The link to join www.thescsptsa.com.

High school students continue to have the opportunity to meet with College Admission Counselors on Wellness Wednesdays:

    October 28

    Wingate 10:00

    UNCC- 11:00

We encourage all interested students’ participation; however, we expect attendance from all of our seniors.  Check Global Announcements and social media for future college visits and other important activities for Wednesdays.

Ms. Settle would like to remind students that

CFNC Free College Application Week is October 19-30. Please check the link for more information.

SCS Juniors and Seniors: while we know this fall looks a little different, we do not want you to miss out on a time-honored tradition at School for Creative Studies- Ordering your official Class Ring, cap, gowns, and other graduation-related items. There are short videos available to explain the products and you can order online. Place your order for your class ring on line by the October 30th deadline and receive a special gift from your Jostens Team – a custom SCS Adidas Striker II Back Pack!  Place your order for your cap & gown by October 30 to take advantage of the special group pricing.

The directions for creating a Canvas Parent Observer Account can be found at canvas.dpsnc.net.  There you will find step-by-step written directions, a video explanation, Canvas Observer Guide and information for downloading the mobile app.  It is important that you create an observer account because some announcements will only be sent to Parent Observers and you can see your child’s activity in Canvas.

Mark your calendars for November 3. There will be no school for students. YWE would like to remind you to vote.

Have a good evening from all of us at SCS where we practice the 4 C’s – Creativity, Communication, Collaboration, and Community.
