Attention 8th grade: Emily K application packets are available. Interested students need to stop by Ms. Meza-Keuthen’s office with a pass to pick a packet up no later than this Friday April 8.

Are you interested and dedicated in promoting creativity, environmental awareness, and community through reuse in Durham and Chapel Hill? The Scrap Exchange Teen Board is seeking high schoolers to serve from June – May and participate in monthly meetings from September – May. Applications are now open and information sheets are located in the main office.

Make sure you come out this Saturday, April 9 at 10:00 a.m. for the Rev’ed Up for Kids Car Show!!! This event is free to attend and refreshments will be sold. There will be awesome rare and exotic cars that you’ve never seen! If you love cars, especially fast cars, you must come!

High School and 8th grade students: SCS will host our FIRST Annual Career Fair here on campus on April 12. We will have several vendors providing information from many different career fields. This is a first come first serve event and you must sign up with Ms. Settle to attend.

Seniors who are planning to go directly into the workforce after graduation, please plan to attend Durham Public Schools’ Hiring Fair specifically for Graduating Seniors on April 19. We will provide transportation and you will work with Ms. Evans to prepare your resume. We only have space for 15  4-5 students. See Ms. Settle to sign up!

UNC-Greensboro CHANCE College Readiness Opportunity is now accepting applications for all current Hispanic and Latinx students in the 11th grade. This is an opportunity to experience college life! You must apply by April 16 and application information can be found on Ms. Settle’s website.

The Durham Soil and Water Conservation District will be sponsoring a high school student to attend the 2022 NC Resource Conservation Workshop (RCW): This is an Overnight camp for high school students interested in conservation and natural resources. Students will spend the week at NCSU learning about a wide range of conservation areas of study for college and careers after graduation.  Interested students should fill out an official application and return to the Durham SWCD office by 5 pm Wednesday, April 27, 2022, or email them to Lisa Marochak lmarochak@dconc.gov.   Please see the brochure or video for more information.

All Seniors & Juniors that are planning on attending prom or purchase tickets need to see Ms. Street to get your mandatory waiver form that must signed and filed with the school.  These forms are due by May 4th but do not wait.

National Honor Society tutors to the rescue!

Honor Society students will be available to tutor in a variety of topics starting Wednesday, February 2nd, and moving forward weekly on Mondays and Wednesdays during lunch and after school in the cafeteria student lounge.

Let’s be clear, walk-ins are welcome during lunch and after school, but evenings are by appointment only in half hour time slots due to limited tutors.  

Students requesting help need to come prepared with all their work materials to make the most of the time.  If you need any assistance, please see Ms. Fletcher in room 109 or Ms. Black in room 115.
