Weekly Message–August 9-13, 2021

Good Evening SCS Families. This is Ms. Price with your weekly message for the week of August 9.

If your child is having COVID-related symptoms or if you are having your child tested for COVID, notify me or the main office. We need to make sure that we are following appropriate protocols and communicating with you quickly. Teachers are busy and may not get to their emails immediately. Remember that if your child is ill, you must keep them at home. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.

This is also a reminder that students must wear masks at all times, except while eating lunch or socially distanced outside.  Students may ask for permission to use the mask break stations throughout the day. Remember that masks are to be worn fully covering the mouth and nose. Parents, we will continue to contact you if students do not wear their masks correctly.

Wednesday, August 18 is a teacher workday and there will be no school for students. Please mark your calendars for this date now.

Also mark your calendars for our Virtual Curriculum Night and General PTSA Meeting at 6:00 p.m. August 25.

Attention all middle and high school boys of color. YMA and Jr. YMA will be having their first interest meeting for all returning members and new initiates on Wednesday from 4pm-5:30pm. Young Male Achievers (YMA) is a nationally recognized school- and community-based movement for “at risk” minorities. These young men have chosen to be neither a statistic nor a stereotype, but have chosen to be outstanding leaders by having a positive and productive mindset in their home, school, and community. These young men take youth empowerment and social change seriously. The four tenets that all YMA members abide by are leadership, mentorship, service to the community, and education. If you have any questions please contact Coach Barnes, Mr. Marshall or Mr. Lewis.

Do you dream about traveling the world? Come to our informational meeting via Zoom August 12 at 6:30 p.m. to learn more about the upcoming 2023 trip to Japan and 2024 trip to South Africa. Travel is so much more than just planes and trains! Join us in Japan to taste fresh sushi, or explore Kruger National Park in South Africa, both are very unique experiences. If your family is interested in such travel experiences, please RSVP to Ms. Sims by August 11 with the sign-up link on the flyers located around the school or contact Ms. Sims and she will send you the link.

We need you to join the SCS PTSA!!!

Jostens will visit SCS August 31 at 9:00 a.m. to give Seniors information about cap & gown orders.

We encourage students to bring reusable water bottles to refill at the water fountains.  We are still socially distancing as much as possible. Please help us remind your children to follow the classroom and hallway procedures. Let’s keep each other safe.

The DPS returning student registration portal is now open and ready for use. If you have a student who was in a DPS school last year, you will use the returning student registration portal to complete your child’s registration process for the 21-22 school year. There will be no paper registration packets. You may complete the registration process by going through your Parent Portal account, or, if you do not have a Parent Portal account, with a unique snapcode you can obtain via the email sent on 7/20/2021 to the address we have on file. If you do not have a parent portal account and did not receive an email with your unique snapcode, please contact the school directly at 919-560-3535 for assistance. Please note that the registration process CANNOT be completed using the PowerSchool mobile app. You must complete the process using the browser on your phone or computer. Please have this process completed by August 30.  Contact Ms. Fleming  for further assistance or questions regarding the return student registration portal.

We know that the app is not always updated in the afternoons with arrival times, so we will notify if a bus leaves SCS late via Facebook and Twitter posts.

Always check our website, my blog—Price’s Write, our Facebook page, and Twitter for frequent updates about what’s going on at SCS.

Have a great evening from everyone at SCS where we practice the 4C’s–Creativity, Communication, Collaboration, and Community.
