Weekly Message–February 1-5, 2021

Good Evening SCS Families. This is Ms. Price with your Weekly Message for the week of February 1.

Beginning Monday, we will start our individualized intervention groups for Advisory 7th period. Middle school students will remain in their normal 7th period classes. High school students have received their links via email so they know where to go for 7th period. These sessions are not optional, so please discuss with your child their invitations and let them know how important their attendance is. We will remain in these groups for three weeks. Juniors will focus on ACT Prep, other grade levels will work on iReady, Reading Plus and/or Vocabulary.com activities.

Tuesday-Friday, high school students will attend their regularly scheduled 7th period class.

Third quarter Science Kits for grades 6, 7, and 8 available for pickup in the office. Please stop during office hours to pick up your child’s kit. You may pick up kits for other students.  Your science teacher will let you know when you’ll need your kit for class.

The DPS magnet lottery is now open and will be available until February 5th on the DPS website. Current students do not have to reapply to the school but if you have siblings that you wish to attend, you must enter them into the DPS lottery and link them to the currently attending sibling. Please contact Rita.Rathbone@dpsnc.net with DPS magnet lottery questions.

If you don’t have your Parent Portal account, we are available Monday-Friday 8:30-4:30 for you to stop by the school to pick up your Parent Portal Account information. You will need to bring your picture ID. If these hours are not convenient for you, please call the school so we can assist you with getting your Parent Portal information. You may also contact your child’s homeroom teacher for assistance.

The directions for creating a Canvas Parent Observer Account can be found at canvas.dpsnc.net.  There you will find step-by-step written directions, a video explanation, Canvas Observer Guide and information for downloading the mobile app.  It is important that you create an observer account because some announcements will only be sent to Parent Observers and you can see your child’s activity in Canvas.

Seniors, it is still not too late for you to order your cap & gown. Visit jostens.com and select our school.  In addition, your graduation date has been set! You’ll graduate June 2 at 1:00 p.m. The location and format are still being planned. I’ll keep you informed when all details are finalized. For now, make sure you get this important date on your calendar!

This week is Black Lives Matter at School Week and this month is Black History Month.
