10th and 11th grade students our Durham Tech Liaison will hold Career and College Promise Program (CCP) information sessions starting this February.  The dates are listed below along with the registration link.  This information and more can be found on Mrs. Settle’s website under the Applying to College tab.

Work-based Learning Online Resources

January 27th, Wellness Wednesday – Students will explore online resources and demonstrate how to use a variety of websites to research jobs and prepare for the world of work.  Sessions at 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

UNC-Chapel Hill is offering a paid opportunity for Summer of 2021 with the Internship in Science and Health Training and Research (ISHTaR) for students interested in working with research teams with the Department of Emergency Medicine, shadowing physicians and nurses across the hospital, as well as shadowing EMS providers.  This opportunity is currently a virtual internship.  If you are interested, please contact Mrs. Settle for application information.  Applications are due by March 12, 2021.

College Board is hosting our first-ever series of virtual college fairs called BigFuture™ Days. Sophomores and juniors can sign up for a chance to connect directly with college admissions representatives and current college students. They’ll have a chance to explore colleges in a way that’s not overwhelming, ask questions about topics they want to learn about, and take action on key college planning steps. Please register at cb.org/bigfuturedays.  You can find the dates on Mrs. Settle’s website.

You can complete more than one form as you receive more acceptance and scholarship letters.  Keep working hard!

There is still room in the Saturday ACT Prep sessions open to any DPS junior.  There are 300 spots total (100 for all content, 100 for math and science only, and 100 for English and reading only).  These sessions will take place on January 30, February 6, and February 13 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.  Students must attend all three Saturdays.   Advance Registration is required at:  http://tiny.cc/2021ACTprep.

 2021 is already a “YEAR-TO-REMEMBER”.  In these first few days, there have been many CHANGES that we all have faced.  New year, new quarter, new challenges.  What are some CHANGES that you face and how are you managing CHANGE?

 Assistance League of the Triangle Area gives scholarships ranging from $1000-$7,000, toward tuition to both 4-year universities and community colleges in North Carolina, and students can reapply each year that they are enrolled.  Here is a link to the guidelines:
