The deadline to submit proof of required immunizations and school health assessments has been extended to Dec. 30, 2020. After this point a student must be excluded from in-person and remote learning until compliant with requirements.
All 7th graders in North Carolina are required by state law (Statute G.S. 130-A-152 (a), Administrative Code 10A NCAC 41A.0401) to receive one dose of Tdap (Tetanus, Diptheria, and Pertussis) vaccine and one dose of MCV (Meningococcal) vaccine. All 12th graders in North Carolina are required by state law (Statute G.S. 10A NCAC 41A .0401) to receive Meningococcal Conjugate vaccine (MenACWY). Parents, we are still available Monday-Friday 8:30-4:30 for you to stop by the school to pick up your Parent Portal Account information. You will need to bring your picture ID. If these hours are not convenient for you, please call the school so we can assist you with getting your Parent Portal information.
Please plan to stop by the office to pick up the science kits for grades 6 and 7 that will be used for instruction this quarter.
Our next School Improvement Team meeting will be held Wednesday, November 18th from 3:00 – 4:00. These meetings are open to parents, so if you are interested in attending, please contact Ms. Barnes for information or to receive the link. We are also in need of one middle school parent representative to serve on the School Improvement Team. The time commitment includes one monthly meeting and any additional sub-committee responsibilities that may arise. If you would like more information or would like to nominate yourself or another parent, please contact Ms. Price. We plan to vote on the nominees at the next PTSA General meeting.
We encourage you to join our PTSA. Students are also encouraged to join. We have regularly scheduled meetings for students so they can make their voice heard about activities at our school. The link to join www.thescsptsa.com. One of the measures of the health of a school is the membership in PTSA. Let’s increase our membership from last year! Also mark your calendars for some important PTSA events–our next General Meeting will be held December 15 at 6:30 p.m. Plan to join us for our upcoming Dine-Out Nights: City BBQ Hwy. 54 on December 3 and at Chipotle Roxboro Rd. on January 11 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Do you enjoy art, music or dance or have an interest in writing, producing films or taking photos?! Then join us and have fun unleashing your inner artist with PTA Reflections! This year’s theme, “I Matter Because…” calls for your own unique interpretation through the arts. Students will have the opportunity to compete on state and national levels for awards and recognition. The financial awards range from $200-$800! You can find submission guidelines and the entry form online at: reflections@thescsptsa.com. This is just a reminder that the Game Plan College Workshops on Wellness Wednesdays (in partnership with the College Advising Corps Advisors) are still underway weekly at 2:30 pm through December 2, 2020. While the workshops are geared toward seniors, all students, regardless of grade level, are invited to attend. Students may find a full list of workshops, and register at tinyurl.com/collegewednesdays
The updated flyer for the workshops has also been posted to social media pages.
The directions for creating a Canvas Parent Observer Account can be found at canvas.dpsnc.net. There you will find step-by-step written directions, a video explanation, Canvas Observer Guide and information for downloading the mobile app. It is important that you create an observer account because some announcements will only be sent to Parent Observers and you can see your child’s activity in Canvas.
Have a good evening from all of us at SCS where we practice the 4 C’s – Creativity, Communication, Collaboration, and Community.
