Good Evening SCS Families. This is Ms. Price with your Weekly Message for the week of October 19.
Tomorrow is a Remote Learning Day and there will be no Zoom classes for students. The schoolwide assignment is for students to check into their 1st period class and ensure that they have taken both Panorama assessments. Students should check into their other classes also because their teachers may have left assignments.
Remember that on Tuesday, October 20, we begin a new daily schedule. You can find this schedule on the front page of our website. Please ensure that your child has used the blank schedule template to record all zoom links so there will be no confusion about where to find classes Tuesday morning.
Official report card grades will be available through the PowerSchool Parent Portal Friday, October 23 at 4:00 p.m. DPS has created step-by-step instructions, as well as video instructions, on how to access the PowerSchool Parent Portal. These directions have been shared in your Global Announcements in Canvas. Report cards will not be printed and issued. PowerSchool is the official source of student grade information.
Parents, we are still available Monday-Friday 8:30-4:30 for you to stop by the school to pick up your Parent Portal Account information. You will need to bring your picture ID. If these hours are not convenient for you, please call the school so we can assist you with getting your Parent Portal information.
We have received science materials for grades 6 and 7 that students will need for instruction this quarter. Please plan to stop by the office at your earliest convenience to pick up these science kits for your student.
High school students continue to have the opportunity to meet with College Admission Counselors on Wellness Wednesdays:
We encourage all interested students’ participation; however, we expect attendance from all of our seniors. Check Global Announcements and social media for future college visits. Go to the SCS Wellness Wednesday Canvas Page for the link. Click here to join the SCS Wellness Wednesday Course:
Plan to join us for our General PTSA Meeting October 22 at 6:30 p.m. This will be a virtual meeting so you can join us from the comfort of your home! Check Global Announcements for more information throughout the week.
Ms. Settle would like to remind students that

Hi SCS Juniors and Seniors,
While we know this fall looks a little different, we do not want you to miss out on a time-honored tradition at School for Creative Studies- Ordering your official Class Ring, cap, gowns, and other graduation-related items. There are short videos available to explain the products and you can order online. Place your order for your class ring on line by the October 30th deadline and receive a special gift from your Jostens Team – a custom SCS Adidas Striker II Back Pack! Place your order for your cap & gown by October 30 to take advantage of the special group pricing.
We have changed how attendance is collected on Wellness Wednesdays. Starting Wednesday, October 21, students will need to log into 7th period only and answer the question of the day. The 7th period teacher will then record the attendance for the day. Students must log into Canvas, check into 7th period class and answer the Question of the Day by 2:00 p.m.
The 2021 Summer Session of NC Governor’s School has been tentatively set for June 20 – July 28, 2021. Students from DPS wishing to apply to Governor’s School for the 2021 Summer Session should meet one of the following criteria:
- GPA: Unweighted GPA of 3.5 or higher
- Class Rank: Top 15% of class
Note: Should a student wish to be nominated and does not meet one of the above criteria, two teachers can make an academic recommendation for a student.
Additional information, nomination information, and student application can be accessed at DPS Governor’s School Information. Ms. Settle is our SCS Contact for Governor’s School.
The directions for creating a Canvas Parent Observer Account can be found at canvas.dpsnc.net. There you will find step-by-step written directions, a video explanation, Canvas Observer Guide and information for downloading the mobile app. It is important that you create an observer account because some announcements will only be sent to Parent Observers and you can see your child’s activity in Canvas.
Have a good evening from all of us at SCS where we practice the 4 C’s – Creativity, Communication, Collaboration, and Community.
