Weekly Message–September 7-11, 2020

Good Evening SCS Families. This is Ms. Price with your Weekly Message for the week of September 7.

Tomorrow is the Labor Day holiday and no classes will be held. I hope that everyone is enjoying your long weekend. Our normal class schedule will resume Tuesday, September 8.

Emails were sent out in the beginning of August with instructions on how to access and complete your child’s online registration. DPS has moved to a digital platform for registration and enrollment and this was rolled out in August. The district would like for every family to complete online registration for their students so that we have the most up to date and current information for your child’s PowerSchool record. If you have not already done so, please use the access information found in that email sent at the beginning of August and go online to complete your child’s digital registration for the 2020-2021 school year. If you cannot find the email or if you did not receive one, please contact the school and give us a valid email address so that we can send you your personalized registration codes. Thank you in advance for your assistance in completing this very important registration process for your child!

Our AIG Facilitator, Ms. Gray Taylor, is requesting that all AIG parents fill out a brief form to gather information. She plans to send out monthly messages to you with any information that needs to be passed along. Also, please take a moment to read her introduction letter on the SCS website.

The directions for creating a Canvas Parent Observer Account can be found at canvas.dpsnc.net.  There you will find step-by-step written directions, a video explanation, Canvas Observer Guide and information for downloading the mobile app.

Parents, you may send your absence notes to scs_maindesk@dpsnc.net

Parents, even though we are learning remotely, school is still important and keeping your children on a schedule is recommended. We have students reporting that they are missing school for errands like grocery shopping. In addition, we still have students arriving to class late and leaving class early. If you are having connection issues, please email your teachers. Please help us communicate to students that their learning is valued and only keep them away from school unless absolutely necessary.

Durham Public Schools has launched a survey for parents and guardians asking for their constructive feedback about the first weeks of online learning.  The family surveys are available at the DPS website and through this link in English and Spanish. Surveys for teachers and staff, as well as students from grades 3 through 12, will be available the following week. The survey window is short, with the surveys closing on Thursday, Sept. 10.

Have a good evening from all of us at SCS where we practice the 4 C’s – Creativity, Communication, Collaboration, and Community.
