Weekly Message–August 31-September 4, 2020
Good Evening SCS Families. This is Ms. Price with your Weekly Message for the week of August 31.
We will administer the beginning of the year (BOY) benchmarks on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday during 2nd period from 10:15 – 11:25 for grades 6 – 9. Students will take Math on Tuesday, ELA/English on Thursday with makeups following on Friday. They will have 60 minutes to complete the assessment. This assessment is extremely important because there were no end of the year assessments due to COVID-19. Please encourage your children to do their absolute best to promote academic success and growth. We use these results to guide our instructional planning. The assessment will be given online using MasteryConnect. Please do your best in providing a quiet place for testing.
Wednesday, September 2 is an Early Release Day so teachers can attend Professional Development in the afternoon. This won’t impact our students’ schedules since it is Wellness Wednesday. Remember that students should check into each class period in Canvas and complete any assignments that are posted by 2:00 p.m.
The DPS Technical Support Options for Students and Staff document has been provided to students via the Global Announcements and is also on my blog. This document includes the number for helpdesk and process for how to make an appointment if you are having technical difficulties.
We have asked students to check their Global Announcements and email daily. Please ask them to show you the Global Announcements also as these are not available on the Canvas Observer accounts. I will post all announcements on my blog for parents.
Parents, even though we are learning remotely, school is still important and keeping your children on a schedule is recommended. We have students reporting that they are missing school for errands like grocery shopping. Please help us communicate to students that their learning is valued and only keep them away from school unless absolutely necessary.
The link to my blog is on the SCS website. www.scs.dpsnc.net. I have changed my blog back to the WordPress platform so you can sign up for notifications when items have been added. The link to my blog is in the same location on the front page of the SCS website. Please make sure you get registered.
Have a good evening from all of us at SCS where we practice the 4 C’s – Creativity, Communication, Collaboration, and Community.
